Women Leaders Need More Than Recognition

As International Womens Day approaches, the corporate world prepares for a familiar cycle of panel discussions and celebratory lunches. While recognition is important, I often find that for the women I work with, a single day of appreciation is not enough to counter the weight of a year spent leading others. High achieving women in innovation, media, and design are often celebrated for their resilience, yet that same resilience is often what leads to their deepest exhaustion.

If you are a woman in a leadership role, you are likely used to being the one who carries the torch. You are the mentor, the strategist, and the problem solver. However, there is a profound difference between being a leader who is celebrated and being a leader who is resourced. This year, I want to challenge the idea that your value is defined only by what you produce for others. True leadership empowerment begins with a commitment to your own recalibration.

The Strategy of the Sacred Pause In our March brief, we speak about the Celtic concept of roots and thresholds. The ancient traditions of Scotland and Ireland understood that growth requires a period of dormancy and reflection. You cannot innovate from a place of chronic depletion. This is why an The Space in Between Retreat is more than just a getaway. It is a strategic necessity for the woman who intends to lead with impact for the long term.

When we gather in Kippen, Scotland, from September 14 to 19, 2026, we are not just escaping the office. We are entering a container designed for deep work. We use the beauty of the Highlands as a backdrop to explore the internal landscape of your leadership. This is a time to ask the difficult questions: Who are you when you are not performing? What does your leadership look like when it is rooted in self trust rather than external validation?

Building a Community of Peer Support One of the most significant challenges for women in high level roles is the isolation that often accompanies success. You are expected to have the answers, to remain calm under pressure, and to navigate complex office politics without missing a beat. In Scotland, that mask is allowed to drop. You are surrounded by a small group of peers who understand the unique pressures of your identity and your career.

We combine the pragmatic data of the Birkman Assessment with the restorative practices of yin yoga and creative writing. This holistic approach ensures that you leave the retreat not just rested, but decided. You return to your organization or your business with a clear blueprint for your next professional chapter. You move from being a leader who is simply “getting through the day” to one who is leading with bold, calm intention.

The Courage to Choose Yourself International Womens Day is the perfect moment to make a decisive micro commitment to your own growth. It takes courage to step away from the daily noise and invest in your own perspective. It takes courage to admit that even the strongest leaders need a circuit breaker to prevent burnout.
